Moving out is a long list of tasks, and cleaning usually lands at the very end, when you have the least time and energy for it. A professional move-out cleaning takes that last job off your plate and leaves the property ready for whoever comes next.

But what does it actually include? Here is how it works at WellMaid.

It starts with a deep cleaning

A move-out cleaning is not a quick once-over. Every WellMaid Move-In / Move-Out Cleaning includes our Deep Cleaning, with extra focus on buildup removal. The goal is to refresh the entire space, paying attention to the surfaces and areas that are often overlooked, not just the ones you notice first.

The checklist

These are the areas the team works through:

  • High places and fixtures: ceiling fan blades, light fixtures, blinds and shutters, lamps and lampshades.
  • Trim, doors, and details: moldings, woodwork and window sills, baseboards, doors, light switch plates, pictures and decorative items, and furniture.
  • Kitchen and bathrooms: the stovetop, cabinet fronts, countertops and backsplashes, mirrors, tub and shower tiles, and wastebaskets.
  • Floors and stairs: stairs, floors, and carpet crevices.

The complete list is on our Move-In / Move-Out Cleaning page.

Carpet shampooing is an optional upgrade

Carpets often show the wear of a lease or years of living more than any other surface. Carpet shampooing is available as an optional upgrade. Because carpets vary so much in size and condition, it is priced with a custom quote.

Why empty homes clean better

One of the advantages of a move-out cleaning is that the home is usually empty, or close to it. The more accessible the surfaces are, the more thoroughly they can be cleaned. Floors can be reached wall to wall, shelves and cabinets are clear, and nothing needs to be worked around.

If some furniture or belongings will still be in the home, mention it when you request your estimate so the team can plan for it.

A few practical details

Access. If you have already handed over most of your keys, arrange a door code, lockbox, or another approved way in. The team needs to be able to access the property at the scheduled time.

Utilities. Keep the water and power on until the cleaning is done. Cleaning without light or running water is not possible.

Timing. Schedule the cleaning after the last boxes are out and before the final walkthrough, so the result is what the next person sees.

Who books move-out cleaning?

  • Renters preparing for a final inspection
  • Homeowners getting a property ready for new owners
  • Landlords and property managers resetting a unit between residents
  • Anyone who would rather spend moving week on the move itself
